Dispute resolution has been at the heart of BR Law since its founding, and forty years on, it remains a cornerstone of our practice. We offer deep expertise across civil, commercial, criminal, litigation, arbitration, security of payment adjudication, and mediation, carefully assessing each dispute’s risks, costs, and outcomes to recommend the most effective approach. We support clients through the entire dispute resolution process, however they choose to resolve it.
We represent clients across diverse sectors, inter alia technology, retail, finance, properties, construction, oil and gas, and banking, and advise individuals on matrimonial conflicts, industrial accidents, defamation, medical malpractice, employment disputes, family feuds, and complex estate matters. Our strong regional partnerships allow us to offer seamless support to clients with cross-border operations and interests.
Litigation
Our approach to litigation is grounded in the trust our clients place in us to manage their complex disputes, whether domestic or international, commercial or personal. We understand the risks and pressures our clients face and see litigation not just as a resolution tool, but also as a strategic lever to manage risk. At the same time, we recognise that protracted litigation can sometimes result in pyrrhic victories or jeopardise relationships. This is why we take a practical, tailored approach, carefully weighing the risks, costs and potential outcomes of litigation against the benefits of mediation or settlement.
Our team brings deep experience across a wide spectrum of high-stakes disputes and industries, including precedent-setting cases in trademark, property, environmental, estate, and matrimonial law. We combine legal precision with real-world insight to help our clients navigate complexity and prevail.
We represent clients at every stage of a dispute, in matters including:
- Contractual and commercial disputes
- Corporate governance disputes such as shareholder disputes
- Property disputes such as landlord-tenant disputes and valuation matters
- Tortious disputes such as those involving personal injuries and defamation
- Injunction proceedings
- Employment disputes
- Breach of trust matters
Arbitration
Over the last decade, the use of arbitration as a method of dispute resolution has become increasingly popular with businesses both in Singapore and abroad. Today, international arbitration is the primary formal mechanism used by companies in resolving disputes arising out of cross-border commercial transactions. Domestic arbitration is also preferred by many local businesses over litigation, especially in sectors such as the building and construction industry.
Singapore is globally recognised as a leading seat of arbitration. Its adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law and accession to the New York Convention ensure strong institutional and legal support for international arbitrations held here.
At BR Law, our arbitration team includes Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (U.K.) and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. Our lawyers are experienced in both international and domestic arbitrations, and act in ad-hoc proceedings as well as under major arbitral regimes such as the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Singapore Institute of Architects, Refined Sugar Association, Grain and Feed Trade Association (U.K.), and others. We have represented multinational corporations and listed companies across various industries such as commodities, oil and gas, energy, shipping, infrastructure, finance and intellectual property.
We assist clients with a full suite of arbitration-related services, including:
- Drafting and advising on arbitration and dispute resolution clauses
- Representing parties in arbitral and arbitration-related proceedings
- Enforcing and executing arbitral awards
